چکیده

Three applications of sampling-based sensitivity analysis in conjunction with evidence theory representations for epistemic uncertainty in model inputs are described: (i) an initial exploratory analysis to assess model behavior and provide insights for additional analysis; (ii) a stepwise analysis showing the incremental effects of uncertain variables on complementary cumulative belief functions and complementary cumulative plausibility functions; and (iii) a summary analysis showing a spectrum of variance-based sensitivity analysis results that derive from probability spaces that are consistent with the evidence space under consideration. r 2005 Elsevier Ltd. A novel risk-based analysis for the production system under epistemic uncertainty

Risk analysis of production system, while the actual and appropriate data is not available, will cause wrong system parameters prediction and wrong decision making. In uncertainty condition, there are no appropriate measures for decision making. In epistemic uncertainty, we are confronted by the lack of data. Therefore, in calculating the system risk, we encounter vagueness that we have to use ...

Modeling of Epistemic Uncertainty in Reliability Analysis of Structures Using a Robust Genetic Algorithm

In this paper the fuzzy structural reliability index was determined through modeling epistemic uncertainty arising from ambiguity in statistical parameters of random variables. The First Order Reliability Method (FORM) has been used and a robust genetic algorithm in the alpha level optimization method has been proposed for the determination of the fuzzy reliability index. The sensitivity level ...

A sampling-based computational strategy for the representation of epistemic uncertainty in model predictions with evidence theory

Evidence theory provides an alternative to probability theory for the representation of epistemic uncertainty in model predictions that derives from epistemic uncertainty in model inputs, where the descriptor epistemic is used to indicate uncertainty that derives from a lack of knowledge with respect to the appropriate values to use for various inputs to the model. The potential benefit, and he...

Robustness-based portfolio optimization under epistemic uncertainty

In this paper, we propose formulations and algorithms for robust portfolio optimization under both aleatory uncertainty (i.e., natural variability) and epistemic uncertainty (i.e., imprecise probabilistic information) arising from interval data. Epistemic uncertainty is represented using two approaches: (1) moment bounding approach and (2) likelihood-based approach. This paper first proposes a ...

Uncertainty Quantification and Management for Multi-scale Nuclear Materials Modeling Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation

To validate multiscale simulation models, it is necessary to consider evidence collected at a length scale that is different from the one at which a model predicts. In addition, epistemic and aleatory uncertainties need to be distinguished for more robust decision making. In this study, a Bayesian approach with generalized interval probability is taken for model parameter validation. A generali...
